Rafael Benitez meets Chelsea squad at Cobham

Rafael Benitez startedlife as Chelsea’s interim first team manager on Thursday after the European champions sacked Roberto di Matteo, amid sympathy for the Italian and speculation about his permanent replacement.
The former Liverpool boss was getting to know the Blues squad at their Cobham training ground, south of London, before facing the media at Stamford Bridge at 1730 GMT.
Di Matteo was fired after Tuesday’s 3-0 defeat by Juventus in Turin left Chelsea facing elimination at the group stage of the Champions League they won last year.
His dismissal means that Roman Abramovich, Chelsea’s Russian billionaire owner, has now sacked seven managers since buying the club in 2003.
The appointment of Spanish manager Benitez, albeit only until the end of the season, led to renewed speculation that Chelsea’s long-term target was former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola, currently on a year’s sabbatical from football.
Benitez is returning to management for the first time since a brief spell in charge of Inter Milan two years ago andtold Britain’s Sky Sports television: “It (Chelsea) is a top club and we can challenge for trophies.”
The first Chelsea player to publicly wish di Matteo well after his departure, Juan Mata, told the Daily Mail newspaper: “Rafa Benitez is a great coach.
“He’s got lots of experience and won a lot of trophies with Liverpool, taking them to a very high level. He knows thePremier League too.”
But Benitez faces a tough introduction, with Chelsea having won just twice in eight games and the club’s next opponents Premier League champions Manchester City on Sunday, where Chelsea will look to close a four-point gap on the league leaders.
Di Matteo replaced the sacked Andre Villas-Boas in March and led Chelsea to an FA Cup and Champions League double, with the Blues beating Bayern Munich on penalties in May to become the first London club to lift the EuropeanCup.
The former Italy midfielder, who played in two FA Cup winning teams for Chelsea, said it was an “honour” to be manager of the club, with the Champions League victory a highlight.
But there was widespread sympathy fordi Matteo from his fellow managers and across the British press after just 262 days in charge, with a stable relationship between board and boss seen by many in English football as the bedrock of success.
Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger, in charge of the Gunners since 1996, was particularlyscathing about Chelsea’s decision.
“I find it surprising and very sad personally,” Wenger said after Arsenal’s2-0 Champions League win over Montpellier on Wednesday. “It is a complete surprise and very sad news.”
Arsenal, however, have not won a major trophy for seven years and there was a growing acceptance that Abramovich’s vast personal wealth meant that, at Chelsea at least, the usual rules did not apply.
The Daily Mail’s Martin Samuel contrasted Chelsea’s position with that of Manchester United, where Alex Ferguson has been the manager for 26 years.
“In the time Abramovich as been at the Chelsea, United, the most convincing argument for patience and loyalty there has been in English football, have won nine trophies (one Champions League, four Premier League, three League Cup,one FA Cup).
“But Chelsea have won 10 (one Champions League, three Premier League, four FA Cup, two League Cup).
“Abramovich’s success as an owner is just further evidence of the overwhelming influence of money: throw enough cash at a problem in football and however crass the executive behaviour, chances are resultswill come your way eventually.”
He added: “Abramovich’s actions defy convention and therefore conventional analysis.

2face reacts to ban on birth control pill tweets

2face Idibia is rarely in the news except for brief announcements of his many country tours and ofcourse the period he proposed toand married Annie Macaulay. He’s however making headlines for a new reason now.
A birth control pill (names withheld) being rumored to be banned soon by the federal government is a hot topic on twitter but not because of the drugs alleged ban, rather it’s for the star, 2face, who has been roped into the story and he’s not finding this funny.
•2face
In a swift reaction, the e nter the place crooner has taken to twitter to caution those tweeting @2face Idibia about the ban on the birth control pill and making jokes out ofit.
His tweet read “I pity all of una wey dey tell me about (name of drug here withheld) #Shallow minds
and later … Father forgive them forthey know not what they say
His followers on twitter see it as a joke certainly, not 2face Idibia.

Differences Between Gprs, Edge, 3g, Hsdpa, Hspa+ And 4g Lte

While conversing with a friend I was asked the differences between GPRS, EDGE and 3G, decided to share my littleknowledge about the topic in case you might be confused about it too.
Before advancing, it should be known that 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G etc refers to the different generations of wireless communication technology characterized by having a defined range of speed.
GPRS(General Packet Radio Service)
GPRS is a packet-based* wireless communication service. It is a 2G technology network that support a download speed of up to 114Kbps.
Limitation of GPRS is that GPRS data cannot be sent while a voice call is in progress.
EDGE(Enhanced Data GSM Evolution)
GPRS and EDGE are both 2G technology but EDGE is significantly faster with a download speed of up to 384Kbps. EDGE is sometimes called a 2.5G network as it also has some characteristics of a 3G network but it doesn't satisfy the specification.
3G
Introduction of 3G network made videocalling and seamless streaming of videopossible, with download speed of up to 3.1Mbps.
HSDPA(High-Speed Down-link Packet Access)
It is based on the 3G network and an enhancement to 3G. Thus has a faster speed, download speed can be up to 14Mbps. HSDPA is sometimes called 3.5G.
HSPA+(Evolved High-Speed Packet Access)
HSPA+ is an evolution HSPA(HSDPA&HSUPA). It is a 4G technology that allows download at a rate of up to 168Mbps.
4G LTE(Long Term Evolution)
LTE is a 4G communication standard that supports HD video streaming, download speed as high as 299.6Mbps.
Summary
GPRS(114Kbps) < EGDE(368Kbps) < 3G(3.1Mbps) < HSDPA(14Mbps) < HSPA+(168Mbps) < 4G/LTE(299.6Mbps)

US Elections: Obama’s victory speech

Read President Barack Obama’sspeech Wednesday in Chicago after his victory .
OBAMA: Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much.
Tonight, more than 200 years aftera former colony won the right to determine its own destiny, the taskof perfecting our union moves forward.
It moves forward because of you. It moves forward because you reaffirmed the spirit that has triumphed over war and depression, the spirit that has liftedthis country from the depths of despair to the great heights of hope, the belief that while each of us will pursue our own individual dreams, we are an American familyand we rise or fall together as one nation and as one people.
Tonight, in this election, you, the American people, reminded us that while our road has been hard, while our journey has been long, we have picked ourselves up, we have fought our way back, and we know in our hearts that for the United States of America the best is yet to come.
I want to thank every American who participated in this election…
… whether you voted for the very first time or waited in line for a very long time.
By the way, we have to fix that.
Whether you pounded the pavement or picked up the phone…
… whether you held an Obama signor a Romney sign, you made your voice heard and you made a difference.
I just spoke with Governor Romneyand I congratulated him and Paul Ryan on a hard-fought campaign.
We may have battled fiercely, but it’s only because we love this country deeply and we care so strongly about its future. From George to Lenore to their son Mitt, the Romney family has chosen to give back to America through publicservice and that is the legacy that we honor and applaud tonight.
In the weeks ahead, I also look forward to sitting down with Governor Romney to talk about where we can work together to move this country forward.
I want to thank my friend and partner of the last four years, America’s happy warrior, the best vice president anybody could ever hope for, Joe Biden.
And I wouldn’t be the man I am today without the woman who agreed to marry me 20 years ago.
Let me say this publicly: Michelle, I have never loved you more. I havenever been prouder to watch the rest of America fall in love with you, too, as our nation’s first lady.
Sasha and Malia, before our very eyes you’re growing up to become two strong, smart beautiful young women, just like your mom.
And I’m so proud of you guys. But I will say that for now one dog’s probably enough. (LAUGHTER)
To the best campaign team and volunteers in the history of politics…
The best. The best ever. Some of you were new this time around, and some of you have been at my side since the very beginning.
But all of you are family. No matterwhat you do or where you go fromhere, you will carry the memory of the history we made together and you will have the life-long appreciation of a grateful president. Thank you for believing all the way, through every hill, through every valley.
You lifted me up the whole way and I will always be grateful for everything that you’ve done and allthe incredible work that you put in.
I know that political campaigns cansometimes seem small, even silly. And that provides plenty of fodder for the cynics that tell us that politics is nothing more than a contest of egos or the domain of special interests. But if you ever get the chance to talk to folks who turned out at our rallies and crowded along a rope line in a highschool gym, or saw folks working late in a campaign office in some tiny county far away from home, you’ll discover something else.
You’ll hear the determination in thevoice of a young field organizer who’s working his way through college and wants to make sure every child has that same opportunity.
You’ll hear the pride in the voice of a volunteer who’s going door to door because her brother was finally hired when the local auto plant added another shift.
You’ll hear the deep patriotism in the voice of a military spouse whose working the phones late at night to make sure that no one who fights for this country ever hasto fight for a job or a roof over their head when they come home.
That’s why we do this. That’s what politics can be. That’s why electionsmatter. It’s not small, it’s big. It’s important. Democracy in a nation of 300 million can be noisy and messy and complicated. We have our own opinions. Each of us has deeply held beliefs. And when we go through tough times, when we make big decisions as a country, it necessarily stirs passions, stirs up controversy.
That won’t change after tonight, and it shouldn’t. These arguments we have are a mark of our liberty. We can never forget that as we speak people in distant nations are risking their lives right now just for a chance to argue about the issuesthat matter, the chance to cast their ballots like we did today.
But despite all our differences, most of us share certain hopes for America’s future. We want our kidsto grow up in a country where theyhave access to the best schools and the best teachers.
A country that lives up to its legacyas the global leader in technology and discovery and innovation, with all the good jobs and new businesses that follow.
We want our children to live in an America that isn’t burdened by debt, that isn’t weakened by inequality, that isn’t threatened by the destructive power of a warmingplanet.
We want to pass on a country that’s safe and respected and admired around the world, a nationthat is defended by the strongest military on earth and the best troops this – this world has ever known.
But also a country that moves with confidence beyond this time of war,to shape a peace that is built on the promise of freedom and dignityfor every human being. We believein a generous America, in a compassionate America, in a tolerant America, open to the dreams of an immigrant’s daughterwho studies in our schools and pledges to our flag.
To the young boy on the south sideof Chicago who sees a life beyond the nearest street corner.
To the furniture worker’s child in North Carolina who wants to become a doctor or a scientist, an engineer or an entrepreneur, a diplomat or even a president – that’s the future we hope for. That’s the vision we share. That’s where we need to go – forward.
That’s where we need to go.
Now, we will disagree, sometimes fiercely, about how to get there. Asit has for more than two centuries, progress will come in fits and starts. It’s not always a straight line. It’s not always a smooth path.
By itself, the recognition that we have common hopes and dreams won’t end all the gridlock or solve all our problems or substitute for the painstaking work of building consensus and making the difficult compromises needed to move this country forward. But that common bond is where we must begin. Our economy is recovering. A decade ofwar is ending. A long campaign is now over.
And whether I earned your vote or not, I have listened to you, I have learned from you, and you’ve mademe a better president. And with your stories and your struggles, I return to the White House more determined and more inspired thanever about the work there is to do and the future that lies ahead.
Tonight you voted for action, not politics as usual.
You elected us to focus on your jobs, not ours. And in the coming weeks and months, I am looking forward to reaching out and working with leaders of both parties to meet the challenges we can only solve together. Reducing our deficit. Reforming our tax code.Fixing our immigration system. Freeing ourselves from foreign oil. We’ve got more work to do.
But that doesn’t mean your work isdone. The role of citizens in our Democracy does not end with your vote. America’s never been about what can be done for us. It’s aboutwhat can be done by us together through the hard and frustrating, but necessary work of self-government. That’s the principle we were founded on.
This country has more wealth than any nation, but that’s not what makes us rich. We have the most powerful military in history, but that’s not what makes us strong. Our university, our culture are all the envy of the world, but that’s not what keeps the world coming to our shores.
What makes America exceptional are the bonds that hold together the most diverse nation on earth.
The belief that our destiny is shared; that this country only works when we accept certain obligations to one another and to future generations. The freedom which so many Americans have fought for and died for come with responsibilities as well as rights. And among those are love and charity and duty and patriotism. That’s what makes America great.
I am hopeful tonight because I’ve seen the spirit at work in America. I’ve seen it in the family business whose owners would rather cut their own pay than lay off their neighbors, and in the workers who would rather cut back their hours than see a friend lose a job.
I’ve seen it in the soldiers who reenlist after losing a limb and in those SEALs who charged up the stairs into darkness and danger because they knew there was a buddy behind them watching their back.
I’ve seen it on the shores of New Jersey and New York, where leaders from every party and level of government have swept aside their differences to help a community rebuild from the wreckage of a terrible storm.
And I saw just the other day, in Mentor, Ohio, where a father told the story of his 8-year-old daughter, whose long battle with leukemia nearly cost their family everything had it not been for health care reform passing just a few months before the insurance company was about to stop paying for her care.
I had an opportunity to not just talk to the father, but meet this incredible daughter of his. And when he spoke to the crowd listening to that father’s story, every parent in that room had tears in their eyes, because we knew that little girl could be our own.
And I know that every American wants her future to be just as bright. That’s who we are. That’s the country I’m so proud to lead asyour president.
And tonight, despite all the hardship we’ve been through, despite all the frustrations of Washington, I’ve never been more hopeful about our future.
I have never been more hopeful about America. And I ask you to sustain that hope. I’m not talking about blind optimism, the kind of hope that just ignores the enormityof the tasks ahead or the roadblocks that stand in our path. I’m not talking about the wishful idealism that allows us to just sit on the sidelines or shirk from a fight.
I have always believed that hope isthat stubborn thing inside us that insists, despite all the evidence to the contrary, that something betterawaits us so long as we have the courage to keep reaching, to keep working, to keep fighting.
America, I believe we can build on the progress we’ve made and continue to fight for new jobs and new opportunity and new security for the middle class. I believe we can keep the promise of our founders, the idea that if you’re willing to work hard, it doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from or what you look like orwhere you love. It doesn’t matter whether you’re black or white or Hispanic or Asian or Native American or young or old or rich orpoor, able, disabled, gay or straight, you can make it here in America if you’re willing to try.
I believe we can seize this future together because we are not as divided as our politics suggests. We’re not as cynical as the pundits believe. We are greater than the sum of our individual ambitions, and we remain more than a collection of red states and blue states. We are and forever will be the United States of America.
And together with your help and God’s grace we will continue our journey forward and remind the world just why it is that we live in the greatest nation on Earth.
Thank you, America. God bless you. God bless these United States.

How 13-yr-old girl miraculously escaped from ritualists

When Emmanuela, 13, a JSS student of Shadoff Secondary school, Igbogbo, set out on that fateful day for her usual Thursdays fellowship and faith clinic service at the church, little did she know thatit was going to be the most horrifying experience of her life as a teenager. But by divine intervention, Emmanuela returned to tell the grueling story of her kidnapp and how she was slated for rituals before God set her free. But other ten passengers could not live to telltheir stories.
According to her, “I entered the bus from Igbogbo around 7pm. I was going to my church for our Thursday vigil. When I entered the bus, I noticed that all the passengers in the bus were sleeping. They were about ten. I felt something was wrong and I quickly told the driver to stop for me that I had forgotten my transport fare at home.
The conductor then said that I should not worry that he would not collect money from me. I insisted I would get down, shouting that I was going to church and I would not be able to come back home evenif he did not collect money from me. But he refused. As we were arguing on that, the conductor immediately brought out a handkerchief and waved it on my face and that was the last thing I remembered.
“I then saw myself at a shrine with other victims. The following day at the shrine, they began to kill others with knife and machete one after the other. Although we were blindfolded, yet, I was able to see a bit of what was going on. They decided Sunday would be my turn when they would conclude their rituals.”
“We were there without food or water, and when it got to my turn onSunday, I was taken to the shrine again along with the remaining two. But I heard one of them saying ‘no, they should return me back to where they picked me. We were three left out of about eleven people.”
But instead of returning me back to where they picked me , they keptme somewhere. The following day which was Monday, they took the three of us back to the shrine. The other two were killed that day, leaving only me. One of them again told the men that they should look for another person to replace me and that they should return meimmediately.
But they refused saying that they cannot return me and that they should manage and use me like that. After the argument, I was laid atthe shrine, at that point, with the little consciousness I had, I was praying, I was weak and could not even move my body. I realised that the killer could not bring his knife on me. The next thing I heard was that ‘take this girl away’.
Again, that was what I saw until I found myself at the Ita Elewa, Ikorodu late at night.”
Emmanuela said: “It was dark, I didn’t know how I got there; I just suddenly discovered I was out of their hands, but I was very weak. There, I saw a man in a suit walking on the street. I approached him and asked him where I was? He told me Ita-Elewa; I begged him to take me to my church because it was very close to the area they dropped me. He obliged me. When I entered the church, I fell and lay by the gate.
“As a member of the drama group, we usually hold drama rehearsals every Tuesdays. So, it was co-incidental that the members of the group were there at that time.
“Somebody who was sent by our leader to check the gate saw me and took me inside, prayed for me and gave me food to eat.
“Throughout my stay there, I was never hungry, until I came out.”
Asked to describe the area where the ritual took place, Emmanuela said what she saw were materials and accessories used by ritualists, such as charms, knives, machetes among others.
She explained that it was an isolated area, adding “there is no living house in the area. I really don’t know the place, but what I saw there were things used by ritualists. I can’t really say whether it was in Ikododu or its outskirts and I can’t determine the time we spent on the road because I didn’t even know how I got there.”
Grandma rejoices
“It was on a Thursday and we use to have our Faith Clinic in the Church. The Drama group which she belongs, had a vigil and she was going to attend that vigil when she left home. Usually, she comes home after the vigil the following morning around 6:30am. But that Friday, I was expecting her to come but she did not come.
I initially thought she slept off in the church. Three hours later, I called the leader, and to my amazement, he said she didn’t come to church. I rushed down to the church to tell them when and how she left home the previous day. The following day, I reported the matterat Ikorodu police station.
I also reported to our Pastor and other Churches in the area for prayers. Throughout this period, I was devastated. I knew something was wrong because I knew she couldn’t stay outside for days without seeing me. I have always trusted her. She has grown to know me very well, she has been with me since she was born.
I know what she is capable of doing. She finds it difficult to stay outside our home even when I traveled out of town. So, I knew something terrible was about to happen to her. I told people she musthave been kidnapped or held somewhere. So, I engaged pastors to help me in prayers. But the revelation from all angles was that she was alive and will return.
My son went to Ajegunle to see a man-of-God and we were assured she would come back. He was even told to mention the day we wanther to return. My brother said tomorrow being Tuesday, and the man-of-God said she will come back either Monday or Tuesday. I vacated my house at Igbogbo to my sister’s house at Sabo to keep in touch with people who assist me in prayers.
At about 11pm, my phone rang and I was told she was brought to thechurch late Tuesday around 11pm. I could not go immediately because it was late as there was no vehicle on the road, but then, I couldn’t sleep.
You know in this kind of situation, people will say a lot of funny and unpalatable things, some said she went after a boyfriend and other things. She was so weak and atrophied when she returned. I couldn’timagine a girl will stay with a boy for days and look so dirty, weak andemaciated. So, I decided to take her to a hospital for a test. She wastested, and I can tell you that she was not touched, she remains intact.” said Emmauela’s grandma.
The other unknown ten passengers could not live to tell their story, their identities are not known just as their families most probably would still be searching every nook and cranny for their whereabouts.

Messi Becomes A Father - Sports

Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova has said he expects Lionel Messi to be available for the home game against Celta Vigo on Saturday despite the attacker havingbeen absent from training on Friday to attend the birth of his first child.
Vilanova confirmed Messi had missed training as the Catalan papers reported that he had accompanied his partner to the private clinic near the Camp Nou where she was to give birth to their son, who is to be named Thiago.
"Messi did not come to training as he had permission to be absent," Vilanova said. "In principle, he will be available tomorrow.
"It is a personal matter, for his family totalk about. If everything is fine, he will play. It is normal for him not to train on such an important day."
Vilanova played for Celta for three seasons in the early 1990s, scoring one goal in 29 games. He said he had enjoyed his time with the Galicians and was looking forward to Saturday's gameagainst their current side, who play in an attractive style under current coach Paco Herrera.
"I have good memories, as in Vigo they treated me well," he said. "I would haveliked to have played more, but I gave everything I could.
"[The current team] try to play good football. We prefer playing against teams who play expansively and attack us. Celta are one of them - better for the spectator."
The coach dismissed recent rumours that Alexis Sanchez or David Villa could leave the club in January, for Tottenhamand Juventus respectively, and said he was happy with Sanchez, signed from Udinese for €37 million in 2011, despite his return of only one goal in 12 appearances this season.
"Nobody will leave in January," he said."We have six attackers who give us different things, and we want to keep them all.
"I am satisfied with Alexis and I do not think he is lacking confidence. If he does not perform as well as he can, that is also my fault. I hope he scores so that people will stop monitoring him so closely."
Barca confirmed that defenders Gerard Pique and Carles Puyol had not yet returned to full training with their team-mates, meaning that one of SergioBusquets, Alex Song or Marc Barta is likely to accompany Javier Mascherano in central defence on Saturday.
Vilanova said, however, that he expected Pique - who has not played since injuring an ankle against Spartak Moscow on September 19 - to be back sooner rather than later.
"Pique has been training a few days at a higher level," he said. "He is improvingeach day. It is a question of days beforehe will be back with us. It is important to have him back. He helps us play the ball out from the back and at set-pieces."

Ref called Mikel monkey — Chelsea

The race-row that has engulfed Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg intensified further on Wednesday as two Chelsea players claimed they heard him call teammate Mikel Obi a ‘monkey’.
It has emerged that the pair of unnamed stars say this is what happened during their match with Manchester United on Sunday — but the official categorically denies making any racist comments.
Clattenburg has been accused of saying to Mikel, ‘Shut up you monkey’ as he booked him for dissent as well as calling Juan Mata a ‘Spanish t***’ in their 3-2 defeat at Stamford Bridge.
Mystery had surrounded what Clattenburg actually said to Mikel – untilthese allegations were made Wednesday morning.
But a source close to the referee told The Sun, “He said nothing of the sort – and he will fight this all the way.
“There is a lot of noise on the pitch and the players could have easily misheard.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s race case against Clattenburg is in serious danger of collapsing completely after it emerged that the club have employed independent lawyers to investigate the claims of their players.
The club are expected to conclude their internal investigation into allegations that the referee racially abused Mikel and swore at Juan Mata.
The external lawyers will then provide Chelsea with legal opinion as towhether their case will be successful. Despite issues over the availableevidence, Chelsea remained robust.
Chelsea will proceed with the case against the referee only if they aresatisfied the claims made by the players after the game will stand up to the FA’s burden of proof.
It means they will need to satisfy an FA commission ‘on the balance ofprobability’, but they also have to negotiate the complexities of the Metropolitan Police’s investigation into the affair.
If the case breaks down, it will reflect badly on Chelsea, who made their claims of inappropriate language against Clattenburg in a strongly worded statement on Sunday, two hours after the final whistle.
Earlier it emerged that the club and Mikel could be charged with misconduct by the FA after the Nigerian had to be restrained from manhandling the referee in his dressing room following the clash.
Clattenburg did not mention the behaviour in the ‘extraordinary incident’ report he filed on Sunday, but he now has to make a detailedstatement to the FA. Clattenburg’s assistants, Michael McDonough andSimon Long, and fourth official Mike Jones have filed reports in which they say they did not hear the Durham official say anything inappropriate.
All four were in the referee’s room when Mikel burst in with Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay and manager Roberto Di Matteo.
Mikel’s aggressive manner, along with the behaviour of other Chelsea officials, raises the possibility of FA action against the club.
Both Mikel and Mata claim they have a witness to Clattenburg’s comments, and PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor, who has assessed both complaints, told Sportsmail the pair have his ‘100 per cent support’

Chelsea's Roberto Di Matteo heartened by Man Utd victory

chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo said his team's 5-4 League Cup victory over Manchester United suggested they would have done the same three days ago if it hadn't been for refereeing decisions.
The nine-man Blues lost 3-2 to United on Sunday, with Javier Hernandez's winner coming from an offside position.
"It's not been the easiest few days we have had," Di Matteo told BBC Sport.
"We wanted to show tonight that Sunday's game was really heavily influenced by the officials."
The Chelsea manager added: "Sunday's defeat was a really strange one because I don't think we would have lost if the official didn't make those mistakes."
Di Matteo was furious with referee Mark Clattenburg on Sunday after he booked Fernando Torres for diving, leading to the Spanish striker's dismissal.
Clattenburg has since been accused of allegedly using "inappropriate language" towards Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel.
But Di Matteo had only one complaint with the referee in this Capital One Cup tie - Lee Mason waved away a Juan Mata penalty claim.
Other than that, the official handled the game in a distinguished manner despite several big decisions.
He rightly awarded three penalties in a thrilling contest and his assistant correctly judged Gary Cahill's header to have crossed the line.
Mason also calmly and decisively broke up a scuffle between Oscar and Nani, awarding yellow cards to both players.
Chelsea, who now face Leeds in the quarter-finals, twice came from behind with David Luiz scoring from the spot either side of goals from Ryan Giggs and Javier Hernandez.
Cahill made it 2-2 and it looked like Nani's finish would win it before Eden Hazard's injury-time penalty took the game to extra-time. Daniel Sturridge and Ramires then made it 5-3 with Ryan Giggs adding another spot kick in added time.
"We deservedly won the game," Di Matteo added. "We had so many chances and we had to come back so many times as well and we showed great character to do so.
"We are trying to play differently but we all like to win as well. We are playing very well and sometimes you make a step back to do one forwards.
"It was a typical cup game because of all the young players in the team, and we had to chase the game. It was a bit more open than usual."
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said his team let slip a great chance to progress and admitted they paid for fielding a young back line.
Centre-back Scott Wootton, 21, was culpable for Hazard's injury-time penalty to make it 3-3, when he bundled over Ramires, and the youngster also misjudged a header in extra-time leading to Sturridge's strike.
"We have done fantastically well and I think we have thrown the game away really," Ferguson told BBC Sport. "With the game finished, we had possession of the ball around about the corner flag and Nani decides to beat a player and we've lost a penalty kick.
"We didn't deserve it but in extra-time I think they found it too much in terms of the young players.
"You can always play young forwards because they don't cost you the game but young centre-backs have to be really top drawer at this level of football and they were just too young.
"Wootton is 21 years of age, Michael Keane is 19 years of age, obviously they will learn. It's a sore lesson from them in that respect - getting knocked out of the cup.
Ferguson added: "We have good options in attack, but obviously losing five goals in a game of football, then you have to worried about that."
