1 killed, many injured as robbers, police engage in gun duel

There was fierce gun
battle in Agulu
community in Anaocha
Local Government Area
of Anambra on
Wednesday as a
suspected armed
robbery gang engaged
members of the state
Anti Robbery Squad
(SARS) in a gun duel.
The police killed one of
the robbers while four
others were arrested.
Also unconfirmed
sources have stated
that robbers attacked a
bank in Ifeloddun LG in
Share, Kwara State
The sources stated that
many where injured in
the attack on the bank
Confirming the
incident, the state
Police Public Relations
Officer (PPRO), Mr
Raphael Uzoigwe, said
the suspected robbers
were those who killed
two vigilante members
at Ogidi in Idemili
North local
Government Area,
earlier in the day.
He said that pump
action guns, which
were stolen from the
deceased vigilante
men, were recovered
by the police from the
gang.
Uzoigwe said that
other items recovered
from the gang included
one AK-47 riffle, three
magazines, 16 rounds
of ammunition and a
Mitsubishi L-300 bus
used for robbery
operations.
“The gang was also
responsible for
previous robberies and
kidnapping operations
in Nkpor, Umuoji, Ojoto
and Nnobi.
“Sometimes, they
operate between
Abatete, Neni, Agulu
among other
neighbouring
communities.
“Our target is to get
night life back in
Anambra especially
during the forth-
coming Christmas
period and we must do
it, that is the target of
the Police
commissioner, Mr
Ballah
Nasarawa.” (NAN)
