Champions League: Injury KO’s Utaka from Arsenal tie

Super Eagles striker
John Utaka will miss
Tuesday’s UEFA
Champions League
clash against Arsenal
after he suffered a
groin injury in a league
tie.
Champions Montpellier
fell 3-1 Friday night at
Reims with Utaka
limping out after 25
minutes when his
groin snapped.
A scan will be
conducted Monday to
determine the extent
of the injury.
He is likely to be
sidelined for between
four and six weeks and
he is certainly ruled out
of a Champions League
clash against Arsenal.
A top source close to
Utaka informed
MTNFootball.com that
the experienced striker
is devastated he will
miss this much-
anticipated clash.
“Utaka was playing
very well before he
suffered a serious groin
injury when he tried to
deliver a cross after
just 25 minutes of
action in Friday night’s
game at Reims,” the
source said, adding “He
said he heard a
snapping noise as he
tried to make a cross.”
Utaka was looking
forward to the Arsenal
game, saying he
wanted to complete
“unfinished business”
in reference to his
unsettled time in the
English Premier League
with Portsmouth.
He started like a house
on fire at Fratton Park
but a slump in form
and the financial
troubles at Pompey
combined to force him
to return to the French
Ligue 1 with
Montpellier and he
went on to win a
historic championship.
