Woman remanded in prison for strangling church member

Magistrates’ Court,
Lagos, on Tuesday
remanded a 49-year-
old woman, Josephine
Jacob, in Kirikiri
Prisons for allegedly
strangling one of her
church members to
death.
Jacob who resides at
No. 19, Omolore St.,
Shasha, Lagos, is
standing trial on a one-
count charge of
murder.
Magistrate Joy
Ugbomoiko said that
the court had no
jurisdiction to try the
case.
“I hereby remand the
defendant in prison,
pending the outcome
of the legal advice
from the Director of
Public Prosecution,”
Ugboimoko said.
The prosecutor, Cpl.
Babaji Ishiaku, had told
the court that the
accused on August 19
strangulated one
Margaret Safi, 58, to
death.
“The defendant, who
attended the same
church and lives in the
same house with the
deceased, strangled her
to death after they had
a quarrel,” Ishiaku said.
He said that the
incident took place at
the deceased’s
residence, No. 19,
Omolore St., Shasha,
Lagos.
According to him, the
offence contravened
Section 221 of the
Criminal Code, Laws of
Lagos State, 2011.
The case was
adjourned till October
3 pending the Director
of Public Prosecution’s
