2 suspected kidnappers arrested in Delta, matron rescued

TWO suspected
kidnappers were
Friday, arrested and a
kidnap victim rescued
by a combined team of
men of the Joint Task
Force, JTF, and
members of the Ughelli
Vigilante group, Ughelli
North Local
Government Area,
Delta State.
The victim identified as
Mrs Kate Okogu,
Saturday Vanguard
gathered was abducted
at about 7:40 pm on
Friday night after she
was intercepted by the
suspected kidnappers
as she was about
entering her residence
at Amekpa area in the
Ughelli metropolis.
According to a reliable
source, the suspected
kidnappers that came
in a red mazda
whisked the
unsuspecting woman
who is a matron in the
local government
Health Department
away in her Toyota
corolla at gun point
after threatening to
shoot her gateman.
Speaking to the
Saturday Vanguard,
Chairman of the Ughelli
vigilante group, Mr
Monday Owhesiri said
men of the JTF and the
group swung into
action on Friday night
after it got wind of the
kidnap of Mrs Okogu.
Owhesiri said they
recovered the Toyota
corolla of the victim at
10am, adding that the
victim was rescued
from the kidnappers
den in a bush between
Ewhosigba/Oghenerue,
Iyede, Isoko North
Local Government Area
of the State at 12 noon,
yesterday.
According to him, “we
saw the woman being
guarded in the bush by
two boys; on sighting
us, the boys took to
their heel,” saying that;
“we apprehended one
of them who after
confessing other
members of the gang
took us to the house of
one of them in
Iwhrekpokpor, Ughelli.
Luckily for us, we met
him at home and we
also arrested him.
He said the suspected
kidnappers and their
Mazda car were at the
JTF barracks at
Agbarha. As at the time
of filing this report,
leader of the JTF in the
area could not be
reached for comments.
