Golf: 60 golfers storm Lagos for Heineken Nigeria Cup

No fewer than 60
professional golfers
from across the
country have been
invited to participate in
the 16th edition of the
Heineken sponsored
Nigeria Cup slated to
tee off at the golf
section of the Ikoyi
club in Lagos next
weekend.
The tour professionals
led by Lateef Lasisi,
Tayo Babalakin,
Chairman of the
organising committee
of the event disclosed,
will take to the broad
fairways of Ikoyi Club
on Thursday
September 27 while
veteran golfers will
have their way the
following morning.
However, activities
marking the event,
Babalakin added, begin
with the Children clinic
from September 22 as
he thanked Heineken
for their support over
the years. He explained
that the Children’s
clinic would be
followed closely with
the Caddies
competition on
Monday, September
24th.
Lady golfers are
expected to take turn
on the course on
Tuesday September 25
while a special Nigeria
Cup Independence kitty
will commence another
phase of the
competition on
Wednesday, September
26th. Joining the
veterans in celebration
of Nigeria @ 52, are
other invited guests
from across the
country.
Saturday, September
29th is the grand finale
while curtain would be
drawn on the month
long event on Sunday
September 30th.
Restating the brands
commitment to golf
development,
Corporate Affairs
Manager of Nigeria
Breweries, Edem
Vindah said sponsoring
the event is the
company’s own way of
giving that to the
society that has been
very supportive.
“Heineken is a
premium beer; golf is a
premium sport, so
naturally there is a link.
And because we are a
socially responsible
organ-isation, we
desire to contribute to
the development of
the area where we
operate and
sponsoring this
tournament therefore
is one way of doing
that,”he said.
