Woman, 27, bags 2 years for stealing recharge cards

A 27-year-old woman,
Aminat Akiode, was
yesterday sentenced to two
years imprisonment by an
Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’
Court for stealing recharge
cards valued at N300,000.
Prosecutor, Mr Paul Etusi said
the offence was committed
on May 4, at Adigbe in
Abeokuta metropolis.He
added that the recharge
cards were the property of
the Global Communications
Investment (GCI) Ltd., a firm
in which Akiode was an
employee.
“She was entrusted with
recharge cards of various
communication networks
worth N300, 000, which she
could not account for.
“The GCI Ltd alerted the
police of the development
and after much
interrogation, Akiode
claimed that she was
hypnotised by some people
who collected the cards from
her,” the prosecutor said.
Etusi said that the offence
was contrary Sections 383
and 390(9) of the Criminal
Code Laws of Ogun, 2006.
Akiode pleaded guilty to the
charge of stealing levied
against her.
The counsel to the accused,
Mrs Titilayo Akinola, pleaded
with the court to tamper
justice with mercy.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr
Ayoadele Ayobolu, later
sentenced Akiode to two
years imprisonment with an
option of N 200,000 fine.
